All true muslims are obligated to make a pilgrimage to Mecca and pray around the kabba. It is not mandatory but if the person is able to, it is expected of him or her. It is something that any true Muslim should do before he or she dies.

This is a very sacred celebration and journey for the Muslims because it creates a greater connection with God. It also allows you to connect with people worldwide on a greater topic of religion. The importance is you can have a chance once in a lifetime to really finally feel like you are part of something greater. It puts all of the learning and studying and praying to the test when you visit the Kaaba during the Hajj. It is a tough journey. It can be compared to in Hinduism when one reaches Nirvana, because you feel like you have accomplished everything you need to accomplish. Your life's goal has been complete. That is this feeling.
